Poem for Confederate History Month

If this ground could talk what would it say? Would we hear echoes of the battle fray?

“God, please don’t let me die!

Why are they down here..WHY?”

“Lord save my soul today.

Tell my Mama that I was brave.”

If this ground could talk what would it say?

Screams, groans, shouts, and cries

Of young men meeting their demise

“Lord save my soul today.

Tell my Mama that I was brave.”

If this ground could talk what would it say?

“I did my best to defend my home.

We only wanted to be left alone!”

“Heaven becomes my home today.

Tell my Mama that I was brave.”

If this ground could talk what would it say?

Cannons roar and muskets blast

As brave young souls breathe their last.

Let not their valor be in vain.

Tell your children how they were brave!

If this ground could talk what would it say? Would we hear echoes of the battle fray?
